Guitar Steps 1

Introduces students to music reading via a simple sequence of notes that create both the G Major and E Minor pentatonic scales and, in conjunction with this alternate-picking is introduced as soon as the first four notes are learned. It is designed as a tutor suitable for any beginner but is particularly aimed at the 8-14 age group. It is presented in three sections, each concluding with a written test featuring notation and TAB.

Begins with a summary of the material introduced in Book 1.  High-school students who come to the guitar already musically established on another instrument may be able to go straight in to Book 2. This could apply also to adult students already physically secure on the guitar before taking up a more traditional music approach to furthering their ability. Designed to continually develop technique through studies, arrangements of traditional material and original pieces written in the style of a popular genre. As per Book One, it is in three sections, each concluding with a written test.

Builds on the intermediate level consolidated in Book Two by introducing reading, string by string, to the 12th fret whilst cintinuing technical development. This 'horizontal' approach to reading an octave on each string is reinforced with standard 'vertical' scale patterns in the 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th positions. TAB is used to assist the learning on new notes and high positions but is not present in the performance pieces. Also introduced are major and minor to four sharps and flats, plus hammer-on, pull-off, and glissando slurs. Packed with great studies and pieces, this will prove a valuable resource to teachers of advancing students needing mature material.

It is designed for intermediate-low advanced level guitarists ready for more challenging material. Not suitable for beginners or students under 15yrs. Includes notation as well as chord boxes, and TAB where appropriate. Range covers school Years 10 -12 (exam Grades 5 - 7) and tertiary level.
