Recent performances

16/7/17: Eclipse Concerto for MandolaBrilliant performance by Darryl Baron, with the Concordia Mandolin & Guitar Ensemble, at St Johns Southgate in Melbourne, Australia. Conducted by Basil Hawkins. Despite still recovering from a bout of pnuemonia, the soloist played this technically challenging work with great verve and skill, to a well deserved enthusiastic reception; well done Darryl!

29/4/17: Concerto for Guitar and Plucked Strings -  Premeire performance by Daniela Rossi, with the Moonlight Mandolin Orchestra, at The Michaelhouse Centre, Cambridge UK, conducted by Anna Langley.  Very appreciative audience and a big thank you to Daniela for her beautiful playing!

29/3/17: Ringing the Strings and Midsummer Bagatellesfeatured on Music of our Mothers,  WFCF, Flagler College radio, 88.5 FM in  St. Augustine, FL. Presented by Ellen Grolman.

22/10/16: Three Slips and a Gully - Concordia Mandolin & Guitar Ensemble, at the St Bartholomew's Templestowe (Melbourne),  conducted by Basil Hawkins.  Wet night, small but appreciative audience, tight performance and this character piece nevers fails to entertain!

20/9/15: Concerto Mandolino - for Mandolin solo with plucked-strings orchestrain five movements. Premeire performance by Michelle Wright, with the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra, at the St George's Centre Malvern,  conducted by Werner Ruecker.  Big audience and a big thank you to the soloist, Michelle for a huge effort!

6/9/15: Kangarella (the Aussie Tarantella) - Solo piano accordian with plucked-strings accomp.  Premeire performance by Concordia. Soloist Juliette Maxwell. Good, fun piece; the audience loved it!

26/7/15: Midsummer Bagatelles - Suite for Mandolin & Guitar orchestra, in five movements.  Premeire performance by the Concordia ensemble, conducted by Basil Hawkins at the Abbotsford Convent, Rosina room. A lovely set of miniatures that were warmly recieved, on a chilly, wet winter day!

28/3/15: Ringing the Strings - Suite for plucked-strings orchestra, in three movements. Performance by the combined orchestras of Mandolins Victoria, at St Stephens Anglican Church, Richmond, conducte by Basil Hawkins. Huge audience and a great reception - a big thanks to all those involved!

11/1/14:Eclipse Concerto for Mandola and plucked-strings orchestra, premeire performance: performed by the FAME 2014 Festival orchestra with soloist Darryl Baron, conducted by Robert Schulz, at the Glen Eira Town Hall, packed audience and a very enthusiastic reception - thanks to all the performers!

The Bells of Beechworth
A work for two guitar tuned to D G D G B E.  Inspired and based on a distinctive bell sequence, heard in the old Victorian goldfields town Beechworth, this work is in six movements; the two outer ones the most substantial, the inner four less than 2’10 each. Appealing work for audiences. Moderate difficulty. Recording available on the After the Fire CD.

Single-movement work for four guitars, two with low D tuning.  A languid 'summery' piece that features guitars 1 & 2 playing a hrmonised melody. Surf-rock for classical guitarists!

Four movements: Based on the Australian Aborigines Dreamtime story about the creation of the Brolga (large stork-like bird with distinctive dancing rituals).

Amorevolezza Suite
Inspired by the Dava Sobel book Galileo's Daughter, this large-scale concert work requires a narrator, and an actor to play the part of Suor Maria Celeste. Six movements; scored for Mandolins 1 & 2, Mandola, Guitars 1 & 2, Mando-cello, Double-bass. The music is neo early-baroque in style and is based on two phrases sourced from the lute music of the famous astronomer's brother Michaelangelo Galilei. Can be presented as pure music if desired. A striking work, the full version provides a memorable concert highlight for audiences . The 6th movement 'But she is still there' is available on Mandolino Italiano by the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra. Duration - full version c.25’00

Four 17th & 18th Century Italian Arias
A beautiful set of arrangements of classic Italians art-songs, scored for Soprano with standard plucked-strings orchestra. 1. Caro mio ben. 2. Se tu m'ami, se sospiri. 3. Nina. 4.
